The BAR

A bar sign taken from Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira, fickering in perfect sync to a complex musical composition, The Rite of Spring, by Igor Stravinsky, presented in a movie theatre. By using these three elements, the movie theatre, music and the image of this bar sign, an investigation of the agency of the hybrid takes place to create an ambiguous space to be entered and exist within, encouraging a kind of foating without meaning, recognizing the work of art as animate matter with autonomy and agency of its own, capable of reciprocal communication that in some cases can be quiet and gentle and in other cases can be loud and in your face, demanding respect and attention. The viewer is consuming at the same time they are being consumed as they participate in the conversation and animation of the surrounding materials.
